Google announced on 10 September a set of changes to measurement in Google Ads. The main addition is Data Strength Uplift, a metric that estimates how many extra sales or sign-ups an advertiser gets back by connecting its own customer records.
Data Strength Uplift counts what first-party data brings back
The metric is in Google Ads accounts now. Google says advertisers see an average uplift of 14 percent, and more than 20 percent on Demand Gen campaigns. First-party data here means the customer details a company already holds, such as email addresses and purchase history.
That figure is useful in an argument about budgets. A media buyer who cannot show what the data work is worth tends to lose that work to something more visible.
Data Manager reaches Analytics and Display & Video 360
Data Manager is the tool that pushes those customer records into the Google ad systems. It now connects directly inside Google Analytics and Display & Video 360, the Google platform for buying display and video space. Enhanced Conversions, which matches customer details to ad clicks, arrives in the same two products.
Google puts an average 26 percent rise in incremental return on ad spend behind the Data Manager work, and an average 11 percent rise in Search conversions behind Enhanced Conversions. Both numbers come from Google and no outside body has checked them. Two days earlier the company moved store sales into Data Manager.
The new Data Manager API follows an IAB Tech Lab standard
There is also a universal Data Manager API, built on the IAB Tech Lab Event and Conversions API standard, with diagnostics that flag broken feeds. A shared standard means one setup can send the same events to several ad platforms, instead of a separate integration for each one.
Meridian GeoX leaves beta and runs in every market
Meridian is the open-source marketing mix model from Google, software that estimates what each channel contributed to sales. It gains features that audit data quality and help build models on their own, plus the option to feed in brand tracking signals. Meridian GeoX, which splits regions into test and control groups to see whether spending caused the sales, is now generally available worldwide.
Google figures arrive without an outside check
For anyone running campaigns, the cheap step is to open Data Strength Uplift before the next budget review and write down the number for each account. It shows where a data connection is missing and where it already pays. Google also began showing AI-built reporting dashboards in accounts this week, so the reporting screen is changing in two places at once.
