Target has given Mark Weinstein a job that covers advertising, the shop experience and its retail media arm. The retailer named him chief marketing and guest experience officer on 14 September 2026. The company said so in its own announcement, which is the source for the facts here.

The role covers Roundel and the Target Plus marketplace

Weinstein reports to chief executive Michael Fiddelke and started at once. His brief runs across every point where a shopper meets the brand. Two businesses sit inside it: Roundel, the network that sells ads to other brands, and Target Plus, the invited marketplace of outside sellers.

That grouping is the notable part. In most large retailers the media network sits apart from brand marketing. Here one person answers for both. Retail media is now a serious line of income, as Kroger’s ad business showed with 24% profit growth.

Weinstein ran marketing for 28 Hilton brands

He spent 16 years at Hilton and left as global chief marketing officer. The role there covered all 28 hotel brands, the Hilton Honors loyalty scheme and the luxury portfolio. We reported that Weinstein was leaving Hilton earlier this month.

Fiddelke said Weinstein has “a proven ability to understand what consumers value”. Weinstein called Target “an iconic brand”. Both lines come from the company statement, so read them as such.

Loyalty and marketplace experience meet an ad network

The hotel background matters for one reason. Hilton Honors is a loyalty programme that sells data and stays at the same time, which is close to what Roundel does with shopper data. Target has not said whether the network’s targets change.

Nor has it said what happens to the reporting lines below him. The announcement named no other moves. Retail media is growing in smaller markets too, so the job title is likely to spread.

The job started on 14 September. From that date one person signs off both Target’s own advertising and what Roundel sells to outside brands. The coming holiday season is the first built under that single line of command, and it is where any change of approach will show first.
