Mark Weinstein is leaving Hilton after 16 years, the company confirmed on 11 September. He was global chief marketing officer and also ran the group’s luxury brands. Hilton has not named a successor and Weinstein says he is taking a job outside the travel industry.
Hilton Honors went from 25 million to 250 million members
Weinstein joined Hilton in 2010 as a senior marketing director. He became chief marketing officer in June 2020 and added the luxury brands in 2025. Over that period Hilton Honors grew from 25 million members to 250 million, a tenfold rise that sits at the centre of how the group sells rooms without paying commission to booking sites.
For the Stay was his one global platform
He launched “Hilton. For the Stay”, the group’s first global marketing platform, and later the “It Matters Where You Stay” campaign. Forbes put him on its 2026 list of the world’s most influential CMOs. On LinkedIn he wrote only that he would “check out of Hilton” the next day.
No successor named for 28 brands and 9,200 hotels
The job covers 28 brands, about 9,200 hotels and 1.3 million rooms. Splitting marketing from the luxury portfolio is the obvious option for whoever runs the search, because Weinstein held both only from last year.
Senior marketing seats keep turning over this autumn. Boston Beer hired Samsung’s Allison Stransky, Kohl’s folded marketing and digital under one chief customer officer, and Audi hands sales and marketing to Martin Sander on 1 October.
The change is already live: as of 12 September Hilton has no chief marketing officer. Anyone with a pitch, a partnership or a media plan at the group is now dealing with an interim structure that Hilton has not described in public. Expect the search to settle before the January travel booking peak, since the loyalty programme drives the year’s first big push.
