YouTube has opened its shopping affiliate programme in Poland. Allegro is the first retail partner. Google announced the launch on 4 September, a week after the same programme reached Germany.

Creators with 500 subscribers can tag Allegro products

The bar is low. A Polish creator needs 500 subscribers to join, which is far below the threshold for most other ways of earning on the platform. Tagged products appear in ordinary videos, in Shorts and in live streams, and the creator takes a commission on each sale.

Google says its own software finds products in the frame and tags them without the creator doing it by hand. On a television set the viewer scans a code on screen to open the shop on a phone.

Google puts Polish YouTube reach at 25 million people

Google says nearly 25 million people in Poland watch YouTube and spend more than an hour a day on it. It also says tagged products get about 50 per cent more clicks than a link in the description, and that money paid to creators from commissions has more than doubled worldwide in a year. These are the platform’s own numbers.

Germany got MediaMarkt, Poland gets Allegro

The pattern is the same in each country: one large local retailer first, others later. In Germany YouTube opened with MediaMarkt, Saturn and Kaufland. In Poland the whole thing rests on Allegro, which already runs the biggest local marketplace and has been adding services of its own.

That gives Allegro a position other Polish retailers now have to answer. A brand that does not sell through Allegro cannot yet be tagged in a Polish creator’s video at all.

The fight is with TikTok Shop, not with television

Video shopping in Poland has so far belonged to TikTok, which has been signing brands to its own shop. Beauty retailers moved early there, as when Sephora began monthly product drops on TikTok Shop.

For marketers the practical change is who owns the sale. Until now a creator sent people to a shop and the brand measured what happened afterwards, usually badly. A tag inside the video moves that step onto the platform, so the platform holds the data. Brands used to the same trade-off in retail media will recognise it, including the version Toom started in more than 300 Rewe Group stores last week.
