Sephora is opening a shop inside TikTok Shop. The retailer said on 2 September that it will run a pilot called Sephora Drop Shop. The first drop is planned for 19 September in the United States.

Sephora Drop Shop starts on 19 September in the United States

The plan is simple. Once a month Sephora picks a small set of products from partner brands. It teases them for several days without naming them. Creators post clips and viewers try to guess the brand. The run ends with a TikTok LIVE, where a celebrity host, brand founders and creators show the products and take questions.

Those products go on sale on TikTok Shop first. Only later do they reach Sephora.com, some Sephora stores or other sellers. Shoppers can look at the item on Sephora’s own site during that window. They cannot buy it there yet.

Beauty draws more than a billion searches a month on TikTok

Sephora gave one number in its statement: beauty gets more than a billion searches a month on TikTok. That is why the company treats the app as a place where people look for products, not only watch clips. TikTok Shop, the part of the app where you pay without leaving it, opened in the United States about three years ago.

Sephora runs more than 3,400 stores in 37 countries and carries close to 500 brands. Chain Store Age reports the retailer has worked with TikTok since 2023 and tested a shop inside ChatGPT in March 2026. Other platforms are moving the same way. In August YouTube opened its shopping affiliate scheme in Germany with MediaMarkt, Saturn and Kaufland.

Sephora calls the launch a pilot, not a rollout

Anca Marola, Sephora’s global chief digital officer, said the app is “a powerful extension of our global digital strategy” (Sephora statement, 2 September). Artemis Patrick, who runs Sephora North America, used the word pilot. These are the company’s own words about its own project. Treat them as an intention, not a result.

The first sale moves from the shop to a livestream

For brand teams the change is practical. If a launch lands on TikTok first, the launch date, the stock and the creator brief all have to sit in one week and one app. That is a different rhythm from a store rollout. It also shifts who gets the first sale. Creators, not shop assistants, stand at the till.

It is worth agreeing early who owns the clips after the drop ends, and how many units the app gets. Brands that treat creator work as media, the way Dr. Squatch did when it hid a prize with a creator, tend to plan that part sooner.
