BBC Studios said on 6 October it had sold Polish broadcaster Polsat more than 200 hours of programmes, its largest package in Poland so far, Broadband TV News and C21Media reported. The deal also renews Polsat’s licence for Dancing With The Stars, shown in Poland as Taniec z gwiazdami.
Polsat gets Death in Paradise, Father Brown and Attenborough
The package covers earlier seasons of the crime dramas Death in Paradise and Father Brown. It also includes nature and history titles: Atlantic: Wildest Ocean on Earth, David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities, The Vikings Uncovered and Natural World: Return of the Giant Killers.
These will run on Polsat’s free-to-air and basic pay channels. The newest seasons will still premiere first on BBC First, a channel available through Polsat Box.
Zai Bennett, chief executive of BBC Studios Productions, said the deals show “the enduring appeal” of the company’s shows. The announcement came ahead of the MIPCOM TV market in Cannes.
Taniec z gwiazdami is in its 19th series
Taniec z gwiazdami is now in its 19th series. BBC Studios calls it Poland’s top entertainment programme.
Polsat’s main rival TVN is part of the Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Skydance named JB Perrette to run ad sales across its channels. In August, TVN led Poland’s TV ratings.
Polsat keeps Taniec z gwiazdami on its channels
Polsat gains the most: it keeps the format BBC Studios calls the country’s top entertainment show, plus a large stock of British drama for its schedule. Neither side gave the price or the length of the agreement.
