TVN leads Poland’s TV ratings in August as Republika falls to sixth

Nielsen figures for August put TVN's main channel ahead of TVP1 and Polsat. TVN24 is again the top news channel, and TV Republika has lost more than a quarter of its viewers in a year.

Poland’s television market changed noticeably in August. Wirtualne Media reported figures from Nielsen Audience Measurement, the company that counts TV viewers. Among everyone aged four and over, TVN was the most-watched channel with a 6.55% share. That is almost 18% more than a year earlier. TVN belongs to TVN Warner Bros. Discovery. The public channel TVP1 came second with 6.24%. Polsat fell to third with 5.95%, after losing about 9% of its viewers. TVP2 rose to 5.22%.

There is a second set of figures that leaves out viewing outside the home. The trade title Press.pl uses those. In them TVP1 and TVN were a hundredth of a point apart, at 6.21% and 6.20%. Polsat had 5.82% and TVP2 had 5.07%. Among viewers aged 16 to 59, the group advertisers care most about, TVN was well ahead. Its share went from 6.34% a year ago to 7.62%. Polsat had 6.19% and TVP1 had 4.42%.

The biggest change was in news. TVN24 was again the most-watched news channel, after several months behind TV Republika. It had a 5.00% share of all viewers in the figures without out-of-home viewing, and 4.86% in the full figures. Republika had 4.66%. A year ago Republika had 6.67% and was third on the whole market. It is now sixth. Among viewers aged 16 to 59 it is down to 2.69%, a fall of about 28%. The public news channel TVP Info went up a little, from 1.69% to 1.96%.

TVN grew among 16 to 59 year olds, and so did TVN7 and TTV

August is a quiet month for programmes, so longer trends are easier to see. TVN did better among viewers aged 16 to 59, and TVN7 and TTV also grew. That gives the group a stronger position in the autumn price talks, which usually start in September. For Polsat the figures add to a hard run in 2026. TVP improved mainly on TVP1 and TVP2, which have older viewers, rather than in the 16 to 59 group that advertisers buy.

Republika’s fall is the part advertisers will study most closely. The channel built its audience during the political turmoil around public media in 2024 and 2025. It became a regular choice in plans aimed at older, conservative viewers. Two months of steep losses in a row, noted by Do Rzeczy, suggest that audience came for the events rather than for the channel.

TVN starts Taskmaster in September as TVP reworks its news

September brings the new season. TVN starts Taskmaster and TVP refreshes its news programmes. The first full month of data will show whether TVN’s summer lead holds. Buyers will also watch whether Republika’s decline levels off now that political news has calmed down.
