Shopify brings Shop Pay checkout into Meta’s Muse. Its stores appear there by default

Shopify said on 21 September that Shop Pay checkout will run inside Muse, Meta’s AI assistant. Shoppers can pay without leaving the assistant. Every Shopify store is listed in Muse by default, and the product data comes from Shopify Catalog.

Muse reads the Shopify catalogue and pays through Shop Pay

A shopper types what they want. Muse searches Shopify’s product data and comes back with items. The purchase runs on the Universal Commerce Protocol, a set of shared rules Shopify built with Google so that agents can buy from shops.

Rohit Mishra, Shopify’s vice president of product, said agents “don’t have the same challenges as humans”. Shopify limits the risk by storing a verified buyer credential and letting each one pay for a single order.

Shop Pay passed 400 billion dollars in lifetime sales

Shop Pay had taken more than 400 billion dollars by June 2026, Shopify says. The company handled 116 billion dollars of merchandise in the second quarter, up 32%. Shopify Payments covered 68% of that. Orders paid with Shop Pay are worth about 16% more than other orders, and three in four Shop Pay users come back within a year.

Amazon shut Muse out a day before Shopify let it in

Amazon blocked the same agent from its site and cited privacy and security. The two decisions point in opposite directions. Amazon protects its own search and ad business. Shopify sells software to shops, so more places to buy from means more orders for its customers.

Meta gets a catalogue on day one. Muse launched on 8 September with checkout through Stripe’s Link, and an assistant with nothing to sell is of little use.

Merchants do not have to switch anything on, because listing is the default. From today the thing to check is your product data in Shopify Catalog, since that is what Muse reads. The standard Shopify built with Google already covers groceries and split payments.
