ChatGPT ads now run in 89 countries. OpenAI will rewrite ads by default from late October

OpenAI added 26 markets on 21 October and told advertisers that automatic rewrites of headlines, text and landing pages will be on unless they opt out.

OpenAI said on 21 October that ChatGPT ads now run in 89 countries after it added 26 markets at once. A day earlier, it emailed advertisers that its automatic ad edits, called creative enhancements, will be switched on by default for new and existing campaigns.

OpenAI adds 26 countries, from Argentina to Pakistan

The new batch includes 14 countries in Latin America. OpenAI named Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, along with Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It did not name the other 15. The company said more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since ads launched just over eight months ago. It also put ChatGPT’s weekly users at more than 1.2 billion.

Ads show only on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise users see none. Europe joined in August, and buying partners followed: Adform sells ChatGPT ads in Europe, and Equativ covers 12 markets, including Poland.

ChatGPT Ads Manager switches on rewrites on 29 or 30 October

The email, first reported by Search Engine Roundtable, gives 30 October as the start date. OpenAI’s help page says 29 October. Once the setting is on, OpenAI can write new headlines and descriptions and translate ad text into other languages. It can also resize images and send clicks to a different page on the advertiser’s site if it judges that page more relevant.

The edits can draw on the ad itself, the landing page and the context of the conversation. The email says ads may then run “without requiring you to review or approve each version”. One switch covers all four kinds of change. Advertisers can turn it off for the whole account or for one campaign, and the campaign setting wins. Opt-outs made earlier stay in place.

OpenAI has published no test results for the rewrites

OpenAI has not shared any performance data from testing. It has not said how it picks a replacement landing page, whether users are told an ad was rewritten, or whether reports show which version ran. In September, the company described AI text customisation as a feature advertisers had to opt into. The new default turns that around.

Before 29 October, open the account settings in Ads Manager and check the creative enhancements switch, then check it again in each campaign. Brands with legal wording that must not change, such as banks or drug makers, may want it off until reports show which version of an ad was served.
