Snap has added an event tool to Snapchat. The company announced Snapchat Plans on 10 September. One plan can hold up to 200 invited friends, and everything sits inside the app rather than in a separate service.

Invites, three RSVP buttons and a My Plans page

A host sets a title, a date and a time, then picks who gets the invite. Guests answer with Going, Maybe or Cannot Go. Everyone who is going can see the guest list. The app sends a reminder one hour before the start.

Each profile gets a My Plans section with current, upcoming and past events. Hosts can change the details later and add more people. Snap says the events are private and invite-only, so nothing shows up in public feeds.

Snap says a third of young US users already plan in chats

The company built the feature on top of behaviour it already sees. Snap says roughly a third of its young users in the United States use group chats and private messages to arrange meet-ups. Tubefilter put the figure at 35% among Americans aged 13 to 24.

The wording from Snapchat is plain about the goal: “take their chats offline and have some fun together in real life”. Group chats are where the plan already happens, so the tool follows the habit instead of asking people to change it.

Partiful and Apple Invites are the apps in the way

TechCrunch named Partiful and Apple’s Invites app, which launched in 2025, as the products Snap is going after. Both do the same job outside a messaging app. Snap’s argument is that the invite should live where the conversation already is.

This also fits a wider pattern. Platforms keep adding small social tools to keep people inside the app, the way TikTok added voice comments and polls to its comment sections.

There is nothing here for brands to buy yet

Snap has said nothing about advertising inside Plans, and there is no host account for companies. So a brand cannot run a paid invite today. What is worth watching is the data this creates: who meets whom, how often, and around which kind of event. Snap has been widening what advertisers can measure, for example when it opened Unified Attribution worldwide. If Plans catches on, event and ticketing marketers should ask Snap what targeting will follow.
