Ad tech company Infillion is buying location data firm Foursquare, Axios reported on 18 September 2026. The price was not disclosed. The Infillion Foursquare deal gives the buyer 16 billion verified check-ins and data on more than 100 million places in 200 countries.

Foursquare keeps selling data to Infillion’s rivals

Foursquare will run as a separate brand inside Infillion and will keep selling data to other platforms, Axios reported. About 150 Foursquare employees join Infillion’s 650. Lindsey Kintner, Foursquare’s global head of sales, will run Infillion’s data unit. Chief executive Gary Little is not moving across. The deal lifts Infillion’s revenue and headcount by roughly 20% to 25%.

The future of the consumer apps Swarm and Superlocal is still open, PPC Land reported.

Catalina purchase data meets Foursquare store visits

Infillion has been buying for years. It already owns MediaMath, TrueX, Gimbal and Drawbridge. In February 2026 it bought Catalina, which tracks shopping in 130 million US households. Foursquare adds store visits and covers 250 million US devices. Its Visits product has been accredited by the Media Rating Council since 2020.

Together, the data can show whether someone who saw an ad later walked into a shop or bought the product. Founder Rob Emrich told Axios that advertisers want fewer standalone tools and more joined-up platforms. Foursquare chief executive Gary Little said the deal adds “real-world outcome data at scale”.

Snap and Simon also sell proof of offline results

Proof that ads drive real-world visits is now a selling point across the market. Mall owner Simon built a retail media network on foot traffic data, and Snap took its Unified Attribution tool global.

The clear winners are advertisers who want visits and purchases measured in one place. The platforms that buy Foursquare data now depend on a competitor’s subsidiary, even with Infillion’s promise that those sales will continue.
