WPP opened a production building in East London on 23 September. Devon’s Point covers 34,000 square feet and holds an LED stage measuring 16 by 14 metres. On the same day Dentsu opened a smaller studio of its own in Bengaluru.
Cindy Rose says clients work in a fast and crowded market
Cindy Rose, who runs WPP, said clients now need content that reaches small local groups and that is easy for AI tools to find. Richard Glasson, who leads WPP Production, said the site lets teams deliver at higher speed. WPP Production employs close to 10,000 people across the group and was set up in January.
Devon’s Point holds a kitchen studio and an infinity cove
Beyond the LED stage, the building has studios for creators and live streaming, a working kitchen for food shoots, modular stages, an infinity cove, post-production rooms and storage for props and client products. Virtual production runs on AI, and the site connects to WPP Open, the group’s own platform. WPP has not said what the building cost. It comes in a year when the group also cut up to 1,000 more jobs.
Dentsu wants 1,000 assets a month out of 3,000 square feet
The Dentsu Performance Studio in Bengaluru is about a tenth of the size. Dentsu says it will turn out more than 1,000 pieces of creative work a month, in video and still formats, and will feed campaign results back into what gets made next. Dentsu has had a busy autumn, having also become Netflix’s sole media partner in 22 markets.
Who gains and who loses is fairly clear. Production companies that shot the same ads on rented stages lose a client, because the work now happens inside the group. Retouching and edit houses in London and Bengaluru face the same squeeze. WPP and Dentsu keep margin that used to leave the building, which matters while accounts such as Coca-Cola’s international media move between groups.
