Commercetools named Katy Hiller its chief marketing officer on 6 October, the company said in a press release from London. The Munich-based firm sells the software that runs online shops for large brands. Hiller joins from Unily, a maker of staff intranet software, where she was also CMO.
Hiller spent seven years at Sonatype before Unily
Hiller has worked in B2B technology marketing for more than 20 years, the company said. Before Unily she spent seven years at Sonatype, a software security firm, where she rose to CMO. According to Enterprise Times, she was credited there with triple-digit revenue growth.
At commercetools she runs global marketing. That covers brand, communications, product and field marketing, and demand generation, which means the campaigns that bring in sales leads. The release does not name a predecessor.
Chief executive Doug McNary said Hiller can connect “marketing directly to commercial results”. Hiller said the company’s technology and “ambitious customers” drew her in.
Commercetools sells AI tools to stores that want agents to shop
The company says it serves more than 500 brands and handles over $100bn a year in online sales on its platform. It has recently launched AI Hub and AgenticLift, two products meant to help shops get ready for AI agents that search and buy on a customer’s behalf. Rivals are moving the same way: Shopify lets AI agents place orders at checkout.
Hiller is the latest in a run of new CMOs at companies selling to other businesses. Earlier, Accenture named Emma Chalwin chief marketing officer.
Agencies pitching commercetools now have a new name to call
The move matters most for agencies and media sellers that work with commercetools or want to. Hiller now owns the brand and demand budgets, and her past two employers were software firms that sell to IT and HR buyers. She takes over at a firm that says it already processes more than 700 million orders a year.
