YouTube will let creators edit Shorts by typing instructions. It arrives in early 2027
YouTube Conversational Editing lets creators change a cut by typing an instruction, and it launches in early 2027.

The tool sits in Shorts and in the YouTube Create app. Google showed it at its Made On YouTube event on 23 September, alongside A/B testing for videos and live dubbing.
Creators type an instruction instead of dragging clips
Conversational Editing puts a chat box next to the footage. A creator asks for a change in plain words and the tool applies it. It can pick the strongest take, drop in music, add transitions, place text on screen and cut the pauses out of speech.
The timeline stays open. Anyone who wants to move a clip by hand still can.
Happy Kelli used it to pick dance takes by outfit
Google’s demo came from the YouTuber Happy Kelli. She asked the tool to choose the best dance take for each outfit, then to add music and transitions that matched. She said she can jump back into the timeline whenever she wants more control.
That is the whole pitch: the first cut is a conversation, the fine work is still manual.
The launch is set for early 2027, not this year
Google gave no firmer date than early 2027 and no pricing. It also did not say whether the feature will reach long-form video or stay inside Shorts.
The company keeps adding AI to the creator side of the platform. It recently opened Watch With live reactions to more creators, and on the advertiser side it put a chat agent inside YouTube ads.
Brand teams should expect faster turnarounds, not cheaper ones
Agencies that cut Shorts for clients bill for edit time. If a creator can produce three versions in the time one used to take, the argument moves from hours to output. Briefs that ask for a single hero cut will look thin next to ones that ask for variants.
The date to watch is early 2027, when the tool reaches creators. Until then the editing line in a Shorts budget stays where it is, and the first contracts to be renegotiated will be the ones that price by the cut rather than by the campaign. YouTube has form here: it also brought creator shows to the Venice and Toronto festivals this month.
