Disney+ ads reach every plan. Premium keeps the name, not the promise

Disney has rewritten the Disney+ subscriber terms so that ads may run in every plan. The wording now covers Standard and Premium, the two tiers sold for years as ad-free. German trade sites netzwelt.de and connect.de reported the change on 16 and 17 September 2026.
Standard and Premium lose the ad-free wording
The old contract split the plans in two. One carried ads and the others did not. The new text says Standard and Premium may contain certain advertising content. Only the mode built for children stays clear of it. The marketing language still says ad-free. The contract no longer does.
Sponsorships, trailers and live sport are named in the terms
The clause lists sponsorships and ads before or after certain content. It also covers trailers, Disney’s own branding and ads inside live sport. Viewers cannot skip them. On 17 September Disney+ told German media that ad-free customers would notice nothing beyond live sport and trailers, and that both were allowed before.
Netzwelt says the cancellation window drops to 28 days
A second change sits further down the document. Netzwelt.de reports that the period to cancel after a price rise falls from 30 days to 28. Subscribers meet the new terms as a prompt inside the app. Anyone who refuses keeps the service until the end of the billing cycle and then loses it.
A premium audience opens up to media buyers
Until now the people paying the top price were out of reach for advertisers. That group tends to be older and wealthier, and it sees few ads. Streaming keeps moving this way. Netflix raised prices while pushing its ad tier, and AMC launched a free service paid for by ads in Czechia and Slovakia.
The money follows attention. UK adults now give 44 percent of their media time to commercial channels. A paid tier that shows nothing at all is a hole in that map. Disney has just filled it in on paper.
The prompt is already going out inside the Disney+ app. From the moment a household taps accept, sponsorships, trailers and live sport ads are permitted on that account. Ask your agency when Disney opens these slots for booking. The contract is ready well before the rate card is.
