Google opens a fast lane into Search for forum posts. Only big platforms can join

The pipeline bypasses normal crawling. Platforms need a large user base, public posts and strict technical setup.

Google has launched the UGC Fresh Data Program, a pilot that lets approved platforms push new user posts and engagement numbers straight to Search. Google added the documentation to Search Central on 8 October. Search Engine Roundtable spotted it the same day.

The pipeline runs apart from normal crawling and from the Indexing API. Google says it covers trending user-generated content only, so people can find first-hand views from those platforms in Search.

Google wants posts within minutes and likes updated within 72 hours

The rules are strict. Content should reach Google “ideally sent within minutes” of being posted, and engagement counters should be updated within 72 hours. Platforms must use OAuth 2.0 and send strictly validated JSON-LD. Pages need SocialMediaPosting or DiscussionForumPosting markup with interaction statistics, such as replies or likes.

Each post must sit on its own page with a stable address. Profile pages and feeds do not qualify. Content must be public and visible to Googlebot, and every post has to be tied to a creator with a public profile. Google also asks for active moderation and a way for users to report posts.

Reddit-sized sites fit the profile, a brand forum does not

Google asks for “high UGC volume” and a “significant user base”. It does not give a number. Applications go through a form, and Google says it will reply within six to eight weeks. Acceptance is not guaranteed, and neither is a place in Search for the content that is sent.

Google does not name the Search features that will show this content. Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz describes it as an API that sites such as Reddit could use to get posts into Search faster. Reddit itself has been tightening outside access to its data and plans to switch off its RSS feeds.

Approved forums skip the wait for Googlebot

For publishers and brands, the change is about speed. When a product fails or a campaign goes viral, threads from approved platforms could appear in Search faster than before, without waiting for a crawl. Meta is also building group spaces, such as its new Forum app.

The winners are large platforms with millions of public posts, such as Reddit-sized forums and social networks. Small community sites and brand-run forums will not meet the volume test, so their threads will keep waiting for Googlebot like any other page.
