Shopify buys the Shop.com domain from Market America. The seller moves to its own name

Market America said on 28 September 2026 that it has sold the Shop.com domain to Shopify. The company had held the address since 2011. Neither side gave a price.

Market America moved its shop to its own name on 22 September

The seller launched a rebuilt MarketAmerica.com on 22 September 2026. The new site runs on Shopify. It carries a shopping assistant the company calls Atlas. Market America started in 1992, sits in Greensboro, North Carolina, and sells in 10 markets and more than 190 countries and territories.

Loren Ridinger calls it the start of the next era

Loren Ridinger, co-founder and chief executive, said this is “not the end of SHOP.COM” but the beginning of the next era for the company. Marc Ashley, the president, said Market America has always been the company behind the products. Both lines come from the announcement.

Shopify already lets AI agents order at the checkout

The address lands at Shopify while the company opens its checkout to software. It recently let AI agents place orders through Shop Pay. A short, plain address is easy for a person to type and easy for a machine to reach. Shopify has not said what it will put there.

Dropping a name is a bigger job than swapping a logo

Market America now has to move customers off an address they used for 15 years. That means redirects, email, printed material and every link a distributor ever shared. Other brands have taken the same route, and Novo Nordisk dropped half of its own name this year.

The old price tags give the scale. TheDomains reported that Shopify paid 200,000 dollars for Shop.app at Sedo in 2020, and that Shop.com changed hands for 3.5 million dollars back in 2003. This sale carries no published figure, so the cost of a one-word shopping address stays a private number.
