AMC launched SELEKT Light in Czechia and Slovakia on 9 September 2026. The service is free, carries advertising and asks only for a registration. It replaces AMC Mikro, which closed on 6 August.

Registration replaces a subscription, ads pay for the catalogue

There is no monthly fee. A viewer signs up, and the advertising pays for the rights. One account works on up to five devices and allows three streams at the same time. SELEKT Light runs in a browser, on Android and on iOS. The interface is in Czech at launch.

Nations League and Champions Hockey League sit next to the films

The catalogue mixes action films, comedies, dramas, crime, westerns and children’s programmes with local titles such as Zakazane zony and Tatry na taliri. Live sport is the part that matters to media buyers: UEFA Nations League, Europa League and Conference League, Champions Hockey League, and PDC European Tour darts. Free live sport pulls a scheduled, predictable audience, which is what makes the ad breaks sellable.

Applicaster technology is meant to make the next market cheap

AMC built the platform on Applicaster’s Zapp system. Csaba Szaniszlo, VP for sales and digital at AMC Global Media CE, tied that choice to scale across the region. Levente B. Malnay, CEO of the unit, described the service as one place holding content from across the group’s portfolio. AMC ran the same model in Hungary before bringing it west.

Free tiers keep spreading across European television

The pattern is familiar. ZDF added more than 15 themed channels to its app this year, and Netflix raised prices while pushing viewers to its ad tier. Paid services are getting more expensive, and free ones are getting more inventory.

AMC Mikro closed on 6 August, SELEKT Light opened on 9 September

Those two dates set the timetable for anyone buying in the region. The Czech interface is what launched; there is no announced date for other language versions. Buyers planning Q4 in Czechia and Slovakia now have one more free-to-view inventory source that did not exist a month ago.
