Warner Bros. Discovery, SiriusXM and The Howard Stern Production Company have agreed a deal. A filmed and edited version of Stern’s satellite radio show will appear on HBO Max every Thursday. It starts on September 17 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time. The episodes will be available everywhere the service runs, and extras will be added from time to time.

The deal comes with a big change to how much Stern works. When his new season starts on September 14, the live show will go out on SiriusXM on Mondays only, instead of several days a week. Inside Radio reports that the studio has been fitted with 40 cameras, so the HBO Max version can be put together from the Monday broadcast. The regulars Robin Quivers, Fred Norris and Gary Dell’Abate will be on screen alongside Stern’s musician and celebrity guests.

SiriusXM is changing the rest of its Stern output at the same time. The Howard 101 channel is being closed. Howard 100 gets a longer “Wrap Up Wednesday” hosted by Dell’Abate and Jon Hein. A new “Howard Stern Decades” section in the SiriusXM app will offer old material from the 1980s through to the 2010s, to listen to at any time. Casey Bloys, chairman and chief executive of HBO and HBO Max Content, said Stern “has always been in a category of his own.”

SiriusXM renewed Stern to 2028 and had to justify the cost

For SiriusXM the deal answers a question that has hung over the company since it renewed Stern’s contract in December 2025 through to 2028. The question was how to keep making money from its most famous host as he does less. One live day a week plus old material costs less to make. Putting the show on HBO Max also reaches people who have never paid for satellite radio. Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s president and chief content officer, described the arrangement as the start of a new season rather than a slow ending.

For Warner Bros. Discovery, the show is cheap weekly talk content. Streaming services are chasing the video podcast audience that YouTube and Spotify have built. Stern, now 72, said in the announcement that for years his SiriusXM show had offered only short video glimpses, and that HBO talked him into opening up the whole production.

Neither company has said what the HBO Max deal is worth

The first HBO Max episode arrives three days after the season opener on SiriusXM. Neither company has said what the deal is worth, or whether the streaming episodes will carry adverts. HBO Max has not said how long the arrangement lasts. Stern’s radio deal ends in 2028, so the streaming partnership looks made to run alongside it.
