Reddit told moderators and developers on 1 October 2026 that it will stop serving RSS feeds on 13 November. Open access to its public API ends in March 2027. Developers who want to keep using Reddit’s Data API must register their apps by 12 January 2027.

Reddit says RSS turned into a route for scrapers

The company described RSS as “a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse”, Dataconomy reported. Reddit is also limiting Old Reddit, the classic version of the site, to logged-in users who were active in the past six months, according to Android Headlines.

Moderators who used RSS to get alerts about new posts are being sent to Discord Relay, an app built on Reddit’s Devvit platform. Apps and bots that register before the January deadline keep their access.

Brand monitoring tools lose a cheap way in

Many brand monitoring and social listening tools read Reddit through RSS links or the open API. After the deadlines they will need a registered developer account or a paid data deal. Researchers and AI products that collect Reddit posts face the same choice.

For marketers this mostly touches tracking of brand mentions, product reviews and community threads. Reddit is also a growing ad platform, with new video ad goals added this year, so the same teams often buy media there and watch the conversation at the same time.

Reddit sells its data to AI companies

Reddit earns money by licensing its posts to companies that train AI models. Its “other revenue”, which sits outside advertising, grew 24% year on year to 43 million dollars in the second quarter of 2026, Android Headlines reported. Free RSS feeds and open API access gave anyone the same posts without a licence.

Search is another channel where Reddit threads show up often, and AI answers already change how many people click through.

Before 13 November, check which of your dashboards and alerts pull Reddit data, and ask each vendor how it will collect posts after the switch-off.
